Pappy Go Go showed his win a week ago against weaker foes was the perfect prep for the Saturday night conditioned trotting feature at the Meadowlands, as he scored for fun in the $16,000 event in 1:54.
The Andrew Harris trainee was firing fast at the outset, hitting the quarter in :27.3, two lengths in front of the pocket-sitting My Cherry Pie. Unpressured, the 4-year-old gelded son of Tad The Stud-Paging Willy, hit the half in :56 and three-quarters in 1:24.4, where he extended his lead to almost 3 lengths.
Pappy Go Go kept on rolling through the stretch, hitting the wire 5½ lengths in front of My Cherry Pie over a track rated ‘sloppy’. Simply Volo finished third. New Jersey Viking, the 7-5 favorite, popped out of the three hole at the five-eighths but never threatened and finished fourth.
As the 9-5 second choice, Pappy Go Go returned $5.80 to his backers in winning for the 24th time in 46 lifetime starts for owner Michael Goldberg Racing LLC.
