1 OCEAN COLONY Pretty much got shuffled out of the race last week, and that happens sometimes. Tricky spot here from the pole now. There could be a lot of action in this one, and I don’t know that it benefits Ocean. Your call?
2 STATEMENT MADE A Doing pretty good work down on the small track and gelding now finds his way back to Club Med. This is no easy field, so I have to rate him a medium longshot. Would need another big step up to win.
3 IDEAL FEELING He’s pretty good right now, but just lacked that extra something to get past the top two last week. It wasn’t a bad effort, but it wasn’t a great one either. Very mixed feelings about him being able to step up with more.
4 INCREDIBLE SHARK The Shark has a few good efforts against fields like this, but he does usually need a few things to go his way. He was not Tetrick’s choice in here, but he does get a touch of post relief. Could be in a live flow. Maybe?
5 SOHO CHELSEA A Debuts in North America with a lot of down under wins. That’s always a good thing. I have no problem with his qualifier here last Saturday. That was a fast one and he more than kept up. Is he ready?
6 CLOSING STATEMENT Did have a little traffic trouble last week, if you were paying attention. That doesn’t mean he’s fully cranked and ready tonight, but the price should be right. Barn has been sneaky good of late. There are reasons.
7 MISO FAST Did not make it into the Haughton, so this is nice spot to land in. This is only eighth start of year, so he’s relatively fresh. We know he lives up to his name, so no doubt about the plan. Daylight race. Could go VERY fast!
8 HEYDEN HANOVER Gets lucky to “scratch” into this spot with the defection of Daiymir. Went the mile of his life last week in the victory over #10. They’re both back in, but with some new shooters. You know what the plan will be!
9 TRUMP NATION Here’s a real test for this guy. Finished up his miles pretty solid in those last two against better, but what about the post tonight. He might get away last, and I don’t feel too good about that. No huge price either?
10 WHEELS ON FIRE Couldn’t possibly have raced any better last week. Might have been best effort of year, right next to his first win off layoff. Yes, I know it’s post 10, but he’s got more than enough blast to get into it. The one to fear.

1 MISS TRIXTON Didn’t have much chance last week, once she drew post 10. Completely different story here. She was very good the night she won, but this is a pretty solid step up. She has yet to prove she can go with stakes rivals.
2 BEAUTIFUL SIN Her amazing comeback story continues. Coming back from major injury, she had a needed race in the Reynolds. Figures to take another step forward here and I wouldn’t be surprised if she made the faves work.
3 SONNET GRACE That was her best effort in quite some time last week! Solid speed. Dug in all the way. She could easily take another step forward too! Yannick will try, just to get the jump on Beauty. Wouldn’t shock me!
4 CLOUD NINE MISSION Jim C barn on a good roll right now and this filly was super solid last week! That was an absolute steamroll win, well in hand for Trond. Regular driver will be in seat tonight and he’s pretty good too!
5 EVIDENT BEAUTY Many of us thought she would “need” the race last week and she did! With that under her belt, she will be ready tonight. Still coming from off the pace, but once she kicks in, watch out late! On to Oaks after this.
6 SPECIAL HONOR Did get shuffled last week, but she just didn’t have it late. Same thing in the Sires Stakes final. Doesn’t appear to be super sharp just yet, so I think we have to prefer others until we see more stamina.

1 SHEER MUSCLE Did have a nice tuneup for this a couple weeks ago, but I do feel he’s up against it with just five lifetime starts. These are battle-hardened veterans. Would need to take a giant step up to trot with field like this.
2 SWANDRE THE GIANT He had every chance in the Beal, sitting right in the garden spot behind that slow pace. When the real trotting started late, he lacked that knockout punch. First try at M1 tonight. Will have to stretch out with more.
3 GERRY In a stableful of stars, he’s been overlooked. Last couple were okay, but left me lacking for a real stakes try. I don’t think he’s quite up to this level, so he will have to prove me wrong. Sears will drive conservatively again.
4 GREEN MANALISHI S I’m just going to throw the Beal out for him. It wasn’t a good trip. I think he’ll be a LOT better back here on the big track and the gloves are coming off tonight. Post edge on #7 and Tetrick will be aggressive.
5 SUMMIT IN SIGHT Also had a nightmare at Pocono, so just forget about it. Prior to that, he was consistent and solid, and with some pretty tough trips. Overdue to have a little go his way. He is definitely a contender in here.
6 REIGN OF HONOR Very good test for him coming tonight. Maybe a touch disappointing last time, but that race didn’t matter. This one does! The knock tonight is the post, because he IS going to get away last. Also loses D Miller.
7 OSTERC Probably the “key” to the race tonight He’s got big time speed and we’re going to see it early. Has a slight longshot look like Wolfgang, who won a division of this last year. Can Yannick steal it? We’ll find out.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 4-5-3-1
H Horse Comment
1 ICE ATTRACTION Has yet to hit the board in five tries so far this year. That’s weird, because we know how good a trotter she is! The rail is interesting spot for her, because she can gas pedal it, IF A Mac wants. Dex is driving #3.
2 THE ERM Looking like one of the longshots tonight, even from an inside post. Hasn’t been able to go with these yet this year and needs a lot more speed to get any closer.
3 DARLING MEARAS S That was SOME mile here last week! Considering it came after a month off, and an all-out qualifier. Svanstedt hands the lines to Dexter now and he makes even more speed. How much will she trot tonight?
4 HANNELORE HANOVER The former Horse of the Year bounced back nicely after her disappointing effort in the Armbro Flight. No worries! She’s still ready to do business for the Burke Brigade. Yannick back in bike and he might look to move a little earlier than Darling. Should be great tactical race between the two big mares.
5 TOP EXPECTATIONS Sent south for this, and back into the Silva barn. We all know Dube likes to take no prisoners, and he’s got a high-speed mare that can go any number. IF things look good behind gate, expect him to fire out.
6 PAT MATTERS It’s hard to explain the breaks in her last two stakes tries. But, that’s where she is tonight! The tuneups at Philly and Pocono were superb, but she drew outside the main speed and players here. A very tough spot!
7 PLUNGE BLUE CHIP Won a div of the Del Miller on this night last year. This is only her fourth start of year. Must have been really sick to scratch out of that final up north, so I don’t know if she’s razor sharp just yet. Might watch one.
8 SATIN DANCER I took a little swing with her last week and she got shuffled out of the race. She also has yet to prove she can step with the stakes types and I just hate the post. In for a long night this evening.

1 DON’T LET’EM Hasn’t done a thing wrong yet this season and seems well on his way to a Hambo try. That was excellent mile in the qualifier, hitting the line right with #3. I see a tracking trip again, and another strong finish. Trainer: We have not expected anything of him yet and he’s right on track for Hambo 19! He’s starting to get really brave and he’s fast! Great combination to have.
2 FINAL CLAIM Aiming a little high here, with a horse that has the talent, but not always the manners. I’m not happy with that break over at Pocono, but respect that he got back into the race. Obviously, no mistakes allowed tonight.
3 PILOT DISCRETION I don’t think we know how good this guy is yet? For some reason, he has some “doubters” out there, despite his perfect lifetime slate. What’s to knock? I loved the way Andy Mac put him on the lead in that qualifier and horse dug in with plenty left, and a strong sprint home. Can he hold off Greenshoe? That IS the question.
4 MASS FORTUNE K Hasn’t faced horses of this calilber yet this season, so this is the acid test for class. In my opinion, he is a longshot until he proves he can hack it here. I need to see it first.
5 SUPER SCHISSEL They’ve babied this guy into shape so far this season. Four starts and all of them from off the pace. I suspect that will continue tonight, as he marches toward August 3. I’ll be watching to see just how strong he is late.
6 SOUTHWIND AVENGER Has kind of fallen under the radar this season, but we all know he loves this track. MIA for a few weeks, so he’s using this as his prep into the Hambo. Therefore, I don’t think we’ll see a gas pedal start.
7 GREENSHOE And, finally the big favorite! Of course he gets the outside post, just to make things interesting. So far this year, he’s been the perfect “gentleman” behind the gate. If that continues, Brian may float out a little, just to test the waters. Regardless, once he hits his “gear” he will be almost impossible to fight off.

1 RECLAMATION That really was an awesome try for her against #4 down at Philly. She IS the real deal and gets a prime post to try and do the same thing. Will have to gun to protect and she still might get away third. YG’s choice!
2 DIVAS IMAGE The defending champion! But, she’s been off for four months. Could she possibly be ready enough to go with the likes of Shartin? I’m going to say no, but I’ve been wrong before. Sits, saves, and rallies up late.
3 KISSIN IN THE SAND Won the Mistletoe Shalee on this night last year! Nancy K added Lasix for that super qualifier and you can’t go a better mile than that. Is she ready to step with #4 now? Scotty Z will have to get her a trip somehow.
4 SHARTIN N The Queen until dethroned! Been absolutely super in every start this year, so go ahead and bet against her, if you dare! She might have won this, once she drew a decent post. Perfectly adaptable. VERY hard to beat.
5 APPLE BOTTOM JEANS Love this mare! Love the work she’s been doing lately. Kept up nicely, behind a very well-rated winner in #10 her last two. She’s sharp, but probably not strong enough to beat #4. Corey likely to blast.
6 SEASWIFT JOY N Graduates back to the top level tonight. She wasn’t quite good enough to go with them in Canada, but her best weapon is the finish. IF they go some wild splits, I’d be watching for this lass late. At a big price too!
7 WISDOM TREE Midwest invader got around Yonkers. She should be fine here. Totally at mercy of pace and trip.
8 YOUAREMYCANDYGIRL Still finding that transition from 3YO to aged to be a little tough. A longshot now. YG off.
9 ALEXA’S POWER The Jugette champ has been gearing up over at Yonkers. This post looks like absolute killer.
10 CAVIART ALLY Aleeeee is back, and on a two-race jogola win streak. She met no pressure in those races, so she was supposed to win. Gets the big test tonight, because she got slammed with post 10. Will be going forward out of gate.
11 BETTOR JOY N IF you want to try a longshot closer, this could be your play. She’s been good all year, but definitely in the shadow of her stablemate. I like the chance for her to get a sneaky-good trip, and blast home to hit the ticket.

1 RUN DIRECTOR Was okay here, and then solid again up at home base. Gets a cozy pole post and plots for a nice, follow trip. Not out of the question to see him cash a check tonight. Just has to protect inside position at distance.
2 PHAETOSIVE She had a tough time through the Graduate with impossible trips. Overdue for better luck, and I must note that Sears stuck with her over #1. That’s a big call! Hoping for a little White Knight magic!
3 FIFTYDALLARBILL Bill is one of six in here coming OFF Lasix tonight. That IS a factor. Bill also comes off his first clunker of the year where he faded after an attack. Look for Corey to steer more conservatively tonight. Big difference.
4 ATLANTA What can you say? Uncorked an unbelievable finish to record the fastest mile here EVER! That was really special! With her arch rival stuck in the second tier, we may get completely different strategy tonight. She’s still best.
5 MANCHEGO Loved her effort last week! Wanted to see this champion bounce back strong and she did! Super blast out of the gate for her new driver, and just a tad short at the end. She might be even stronger tonight. Gun or wait? Trainer: No Lasix doesn’t concern me. More than anything, adding blinkers made a difference in her performance. FINALLY some post relief too! She’s a great mare and I wouldn’t overlook her.
6 CUSTOM CANTAB Did a very nice job of towing along to hit the board last week at 30-1. Tough trip coming now.
7 CRYSTAL FASHION World Champion has come up a little bit short in his last pair. I don’t really know what to expect from this tougher post in overflow field. If he takes back, he might be too far back again to do any damage. Tough call.
8 MUSCLE M UP Also coming off Lasix after a sit-in, shuffle trip last week. Post gods were not kind this time. Pass.
9 SOUTHWIND CHROME Paid instant dividends for the new connections and it was perfect confidence builder. BUT, do you really think he can step with Atlanta or Six Pack off that? And bad post? I will have to see it to believe it.
10 MISSION ACCEPTED Unplayable from this terrible post and he will be huge longshot again. Not my type.
11 SIX PACK Went the race of his life last week and still couldn’t fight off the filly. It was monster try! Ake has him razor sharp again, but what’s going to happen from the second tier? Also off Lasix. The mare may get the jump on him now.

1 CAPTAIN CRUNCH The Crunch was awesome up in Canada and equally impressive through his coasting victory in last week’s elim Drew the rail, and that can be a “tricky” post in big race like this. Once things settle, he’ll be moving and should get the respect to earn the lead. After that, it’s catch, if catch can! Trainer: Couldn’t be happier with him! Was under wraps in the elim and shut down the final eighth. He had a good week!
2 ESCAPETOTHEBEACH If you want to try and invent a live longshot, maybe this guy will do? He was plenty good with some late kick inside last week. Similar trip likely coming and if things go a little wild, he can finish. Big price!
3 CAPTAIN AHAB Barn entered four in the elims and got ALL FOUR into the final. That is amazing. Yes, they’re some of the longshots, but a few of them will likely get money. Ahab will have to step up his game a little, but that can happen.
4 BETTOR’S WISH Is he the second best colt in here, or the top dog? Tonight’s his chance to shine. Couldn’t possibly have looked any better last week and has really come into his own as a 3YO. Tactics will key key, but Dex driving great!
5 HURRIKANE EMPEROR He IS the wild card in here, because his game is speed. Got exactly the trip he wanted last week and was clearly outpaced late. Dube’s job here is to save a little for the lane, and that can earn them a share. Trainer: Very happy with the week leading into the Pace. We have planned for this all season ,and if we don’t get a top effort, that’s a bad job by us.
6 REIGNING DEO Hasn’t been as effective so far this year at three, so he looks like one of the big longshots tonight.
7 BEST IN SHOW Sneaky good last week for his Hall of Fame trainer/driver combo. Sears picked up drive when McClure couldn’t get here. Sometimes, you just get lucky, but horse was good! Tonight’s problem is post. Needs big 1.
8 U S CAPTAIN One of FIVE sons of the great Pace Champ Captaintreacherous to make tonight’s final. That’s amazing! Of Alagna’s Armada here, he might be in the best form. But, what magic can Yannick pull just to get him into the race?
9 WORKIN ONA MYSTERY He was awesome in the Cup Elim and then used hard in the final. Bounced back with super elim, finishing just as strong as Crunch. You all know how much I hate the post. Will be going “forward” out of gate.
10 CAPTAIN TREVOR Trevor is just rounding into his best form, so I hate to see that he got stuck with the 10-box. For him, it’s all about the finish, but how much can you go from that far back? Needs total mayhem to set up a rally.

H Horse Comment
1 ENDEAVOR Had a rough go of it in the Preferred last week and this is no easier! A longshot, even on rail.
2 DUPLICATED N Not doing badly of late, as he transitions to this upper stakes level. The post relief alone could put him more in play, and there is obviously a big chance of mayhem near the leaders. Don’t be shocked if he flies late.
3 BECKHAM’S Z TAM Only two wins so far this year, so that’s not good enough. Retains longshot status tonight.
4 ALWAYS A PRINCE Went the race of his life, setting things up for the pocket rocket Lather! In grind mode prior to that, he wore them down. Dave Miller gets the call tonight and I do wonder what he will plan. Horse very good now!
5 LATHER UP Gotta give credit where due! That was the best drive on Montrell’s career and the trip horse has waited for his whole life. 1:46 in the fastest race here EVER! Can they do it again? Will have to leave again, but he can!
6 MCWICKED The Horse of the Year AND defending Haughton champ. That gets him the “respect” of morning line favorite status, but the betting could go either way. I thought Wick’s last try was best yet. Just getting into gear now. Trainer: I think and hope he is ready to bounce back. Had week to freshen up. Trained awesome! He’s had four starts, and been first over four times! Hoping we can map out some sort of trip and race could set up nicely for his style.
7 WESTERN JOE Western Joe beat this crew in the McKee Memorial on Hambo day last year. His finest moment. And he tuned up with a very sneaky-good race last week. Let them mix things up and he’s set up for a monster race.
8 HIGHALATOR Mr. Still and this grand 5YO are the key to the whole race. At the extra distance, it just might make things a tad easier to blast and cross over. He’s been huge here all year, but if he sets pace, can he hold off BOTH 5,6?
9 DORSODURO HANOVER Simply put, it just hasn’t been his year. Between bad posts and no-chance trips, it just hasn’t happened. One night soon, he’ll upset the applecart with a huge win, but I don’t think it will be tonight.
10 THIS IS THE PLAN After the super Ben Franklin win, he was downright ignored by the bettors! No respect! But, he went out and delivered another solid race. What can we possibly get from post 10? No idea. That’s up to Yannick.
11 DEALT A WINNER Back to his favorite track, but in an almost impossible spot. Hoping for mayhem, huge kick.
12 FILIBUSTER HANOVER He’s in the same boat as stablemate #9. The pace cooked him in the Franklin consolation. Won’t be setting the pace here. Just hoping to stay out of trouble and launch a late move. A big ‘ol maybe.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 7-2-6-4
H Horse Comment
1 SYLPH HANOVER The first of FIVE from the Burke Brigade here. She’s been no match for the top fillies so far.
2 WARRAWEE UBEAUT Beaut was battled into submission in a grueling edition of the Lynch last time. That was two weeks ago, so she gets some time to recover. Couldn’t be any sharper this year and overdue to get a little luckier!
3 TALL DRINK HANOVER It’s hard to get a real gauge on where she’s at. Last two finals have been disasters. I like the post relief for her tonight, as that will help. IF Andy Mac feels good about it, he will put her in play. I hope so.
4 TRILLIONS HANOVER Also seems one step below the elite fillies so far. But, she hasn’t disgraced herself. That was the race of her life over at Pocono and she won’t be setting the pace here. Any smooth trip, gives big upset chance. Trainer: Hard-knocking filly! Always gives a good effort. Hard to figure out these 12-horse fields, however.
5 ROSE RUN UPTOWNGAL Zeron gets the substitute call here and he won this race last year with Kissin. Had a tough trip in her Lynch elim and note that she didn’t back up. That caught my eye. Perfect post here. Off the pace. A chance.
6 PHILLY HANOVER Drew post eight in the Lynch final, so that pretty much sealed her fate. Almost got the last check too, with a rally from last. She seems best-suited as a one-run closer, so hoping somebody puts pressure on #3.
7 ZERO TOLERANCE She’s been a good filly since day one for her Hall of Fame trainer. Was finishing fastest at the end of the Lynch after getting out of traffic. Tonight’s problem is post. Her worst in a while. May have to take shot, blast!
8 STONEBRIDGE SOUL The “beneficiary” of the perfect Tetrick drive again! But, she’s been good in every start this year, so full credit to Ryder for that. Could be a very BIG night for him, if Wish comes through in the Pace. Good karma!
9 ST SOMEWHERE Post gods have not been kind to her this year. This slot stinks, but that’s racing! Her new driver will just take it as it comes, and hope to pick off any tired ones. That’s her only chance.
10 SWEET LUCY LOU Asking a lot in her first real stakes test. I don’t think she’s up to it from post 10. Pass.
11 SHE’S ALLRIGHT Living up to her name! And, had nice tuneup first-time Lasix. Stuck in behind a slowish-starter.
12 RENAISSANCE LADY K Where’s she going from post 12? That alone takes away her best weapon: speed! I can’t envision her passing too many, so I will simply wish good luck!

1 SISTER’S PROMISE Got stuck in a shuffle as the surprising favorite in last week’s Reynolds division. That may have been by design. Could be completely different strategy here, with shorter field. I wouldn’t be quick to toss her out.
2 PRINCESS DEO By all rights, she had every chance to step up and deliver a “signature” win last week. Got a little tired instead. Brian did have choice, and he opted for Starita over this lass. That has to tell us something, right?
3 MILLIE’S POSSESION It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such an impressive Big M debut! That was a REAL sparkler here last week, and Millie’s domination has continued. Dex drove with supreme confidence, and now I know why.
4 ASIAGO Did a little of the “dirty work” early last week and then got stuffed in a box late. But, if Yannick saw fit to choose #6, that can’t be a sign of confidence here. She’s been good so far this year, but might need a bit more tonight.
5 QUEEN OF TRIXS Asking a bit much of this filly in a race like this. She did have a tuneup from a bad post two weeks ago, but I would have liked to see more action. She’s a longshot with these, until I see more.
6 THE ICE DUTCHESS Wasn’t quite as strong against the colts two weeks ago, but she was going to need that race anyway. Extra week off. The prime races coming up, so she’s got to do some work tonight as Yannick’s choice.
7 STARITA What a week for the filly and what a week for the new Hall of Fame trainer! She’s been good all year and heads into the Oaks with another chance to sparkle. Drew same post as last week, but can leave. I suspect she might.

1 QUALITY BUD Bud enters tonight off the race of his life! Seems to really “swell up” when Yannick steers. They take big bump up in class tonight, but the rail should be a help. He can leave enough to protect, and then stalk favorites.
2 STAG PARTY Odd spot for the 3YO on Pace night without being in it, but that’s what connections opted for. Horse is probably happy to get away from a good Century Farroh too! Needs to “step it up” a bit to earn first win of year. Trainer: I was very disappointed with him last week. He got beat by a very nice horse, but with the trip he got, and how good he looked, I felt he should have gone by. Brought him here to add Lasix and get Sears back on him. Bounce back!
3 LYONS STEEL Technically beat a better field than this down at Philly, but he does fit the condition. It was a big effort with a perfect trip, but he could easily get another. I certainly wouldn’t talk you off him, especially if price is right.
4 LETSCHASETHEDREAMN Bouncing up and down the class ladder lately. At every track BUT here. Anxious to see if the 7YO is a true mile track performer and he meets a pretty solid group. Has to prove himself here first.
5 SAMS A CHAMP A Sam is back going very well right now, and that was a real dirty nose beat last week. He’s bumped up the ladder a touch, but I hate to ignore sharp horses. Might also offer the right value to use in the gimmicks.
6 ANOTHER DAILY COPY Could be jump up and win this? Sure! But, he’ll have to be better than he was at Pocono. Couple weeks off. I still remember his solid wins here two months ago. Needs to return to that kind of form with A Mac.
7 ON DUTY I think we all missed the boat on this guy last week. It took a couple of class drops, but he sure found his late kick again! The flying finish produced a 7-1 upset. What will the price be tonight on the class hike? Not sure.
8 SWEET ROCK Also a victim of a dirty nose beat last time! The 1:48.1 winner from a few months ago gets more class relief and was Dexter’s choice of three. Have to respect that. We’re going to see some speed, folks. Will it work?
9 MUSIC IS ART Scooted over to Pocono and made a break, wasting the trip! Quickly back to Club Med, but in bad post and against very good field. I think I have to prefer others.
10 BALLERAT BOOMERANG Where’s he going from post 10? My guess is not very far. Your call, folks.

1 MANGOGH No Med Pace consolation this year, so Mangogh ends up in here. I’m sure it took them a little longer to get him back to the races, but he wasn’t terrible last week. Paced in 50, home in 25.4. Should be a lot tighter tonight.
2 ITS JUST TOO MUCH Off a scratch and some flat efforts, he looks like a real longshot vs. these in here. Pass.
3 STONEDUST Gets the very tepid call as morning line favorite in a very wide open race. He drops. Moves a little further inside and gets Andy Miller again. Packs better and versatile early speed now. Andy will take a big shot with him.
4 BACKSTREET LAWYER I can easily make a solid case for this guy at a square price. It’s also a slight drop for him. He switches to Dave Miller and this race could have a LOT of action in it. That all sets up for his big kick, IF flow is live.
5 DARLING’S DRAGON Back from Philly, but still in a little steep with these. I would be surprised if he won this.
6 JK WILDFIRE Goes under the hammer in the Mixed Sale tomorrow, so last chance to impress. Really can’t fault either of his last two starts, but he is a one-way performer. Needs exactly the right setup to try and sweep them all. Tuf call.
7 ODDS ON LAUDERDALE Off for several months and on the comeback trail. I don’t think he’s primed, ready for this.
8 PYRO He’s the other 3YO and definitely the wild card in here! Obviously I can’t fault the work he’s done over past month, but he hasn’t’ done it here. When you show up at Club Med, you better bring your best! We’ll see, vs older.
9 MESSI N Looks like Messi’s luck has run out, with this post drawn. He’s back in better shape for The Mann, but he’s facing a tall, uphill task here in for the tag. I don’t see him reaching.
10 WHITTAKER N He’s the other “wild card” in here. I can’t say I was all that happy with his race last week. Took some funny steps and that was the end of it. He almost never leaves. He’s got post 10, but a new driver in Scotty Z.
