Dave Brower grew up five minutes from the Meadowlands in nearby Passaic, NJ. He served as the Meadowlands morning line oddsmaker, handicapper, and broadcaster for 16 years from 1987 to 2011. He has also co-hosted CBS Sports Network’s coverage of The Hambletonian, Meadowlands Pace, and Little Brown Jug with Hall of Famer Gary Seibel and his new co-host at the Meadowlands, Justin Horowitz. Brower also published "Harnessing Winners, The Complete Guide To Handicapping Harness Races" with Daily Racing Form Press in 2009.

1 First Race Entries
Picks: 5-6-1-3
H Horse Comment
1 K Ryan Bluechip Virgil Morgan, Jr. trainee has been ultra sharp in all three starts since bouncing back from a break, beaten favorite outsprinted by JK Will Power last week, but remains a huge threat from the pole again – Trainer: He’s getting sharp right now, had a good week, Buter gets along with him great.
2 Midnight Lightning Far back eighth as a longshot in both starts here since shipping from Yonkers, bumped back up a notch, lands inside which affords him a chance to get off to a better start.
3 Sam Hill 11YO has been pretty productive @ The Meadows recently, versatile gelding gets a barn change, draws well, seems his best weapon is speed & could be the one to knock off – Trainer: An old class horse, looking forward to racing him, hoping he likes NJ as well.
4 Betterlatethnnever Veteran gelding has come around in his last three @ Saratoga, not sure where he fits here, but his sharp closing kick with come in handy down the longer stretch, Corey Callahan’s choice over #3.
5 Mr Hasani N 9YO gelding has revived his form in his last three @ Harrah’s Philadelphia with a win sandwiched by two close seconds there & has enjoyed his share of success @ The Big M – Trainer: Has been sharp at Harrah’s Philadelphia, likes the big track, should be good.
6 JK Will Power 2016 Pace finalist & Hempt runner up made a triumphant return to The Big M for a high percentage barn & tripped out to equal his lifetime mark, poised to step it up further.
7 Neptune 8YO sidelined after two straight sick scratches last Fall, won the comebacker with a well-rated mile @ Yonkers, owns some back class, but needs to step up substantially to be a threat.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 4-8-3-2
H Horse Comment
1 Firefox Hanover Gelded son of Breeders Crown champion If I Can Dream picked up some checks in NJ Sires events at two, distanced in the qualifier far behind the seasoned Speed Again, watching for improvement.
2 Sea Rover White Birch Farm homebred hails from an extensive family of winners, dam is a sister to Island Fantasy, 1:50.1 [$1,371,525], tough to gauge off an even qualifier, yet the inside draw gives him a chance to make an immediate impression.
3 Southwind Jenson Gelding had his share of issues at two, making breaks & eventually sidelined off a sick scratch, likely matured for Noel Daley, chased the classy Boston Red Rocks in the qualifier & draws inside.
4 Dorel Absolutely no way to predict his impressive winning debut here in 1:53 off a nondescript Pocono qualifier, Chris Ryder said the homebred Western Ideal gelding was immature, looked like a future star to me – Trainer: Not as immature as I thought, I like him.
5 Witchita One for 27 & picking up checks in the tougher Weiss Series @ Pocono, chasing the likes of Highalator, stalking type gets a chance to kick home down the longer stretch here.
6 Mister Travel Pace compromised last week, landing on the fringe fifth again, did pace home in :26.3 & will need a fast pace & lovely flow to pick up his game.
7 PT B Quick Gelding was fairly consistent as a freshman & took a mark of 1:54.1, showed stark improvement in his third start off the bench @ Harrah’s Philadelphia when he rallied to hit the board.
8 Wildman Brother to Lookinforagoodtime, 1:53 [$205,661] has kicked off his sophomore season going four-for-four on Lasix @ Rosecroft, tougher assignment here, but has oodles of potential.
9 Spanish Art Lagged far behind in his 3YO debut here, then made an early miscue @ Yonkers, lands outside while facing some much sharper foes.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 7-3-1-2
H Horse Comment
1 Shaguar One for 14 in 2017, landed on the fringe fifth in both legs of another Dash For The G Notes Series, note the improved :26.3 on the end of last week’s mile, could be a hint of more, Corey Callahan sticks over #3.
2 Art’s On Fire Rebounded by flashing some sneaky late pace in his return to the mile track last week, pretty consistent 9YO can work out another favorable trip from another inside post.
3 Wayward Son 10YO went from full to empty last week, yet did get caught in a tough spot while chasing a wicked 1:50.3 winner, scored with a perfect trip as the heavy favorite before that, chance to rebound.
4 Daylyn Horizon Set a rated pace & faded to eighth last out, has struggled in his last three, remains at the level of the big win back on 3-3 & draws well, but hasn’t raced in three weeks.
5 Mr Julian Back-to-back blowout winner in early March hasn’t been able to muster to the same sustain recently, but does get away from a raging Who Do You Like & draws well in a wide-open division.
6 Buckeye In Charge 10YO is just one for his last 37, flashed a hint of improvement with that third off cover two starts back, would benefit from a hefty speed target.
7 To Beach His Own Dropped to this level for his second start off the bench & finished a much-improved third in :27.3 last week, proven winner here may be on verge of an overdue tally.
8 Cherokee Ranger Has tailed off significantly in his last two since his recent form spree, moves outside will have to somehow turn things around in a big way.
9 Twincreeks Jack Fresh off another impressive win @ Freehold where Nick Surick rules the roost, steps up in price & draws outside, but has speed to overcome this tougher assignment, Dave Miller took him over #4.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 5-3-9-1
H Horse Comment
1 Love Tap Hanover Tried it on the lead & faded to sixth under ideal conditions @ Yonkers last out, lands in a much softer spot here & could be more competitive.
2 Elite Awards Only one for his last 43 & hasn’t been heard from in three starts here at the $10,000 level, gelding is getting some class & post relief, which is bound to pick up his game.
3 Sir Ziggy’s Z Tam 9YO just two for his last 33, has been dull off cover from post eight in his last two, class & post relief makes him a major player in this soft bottom level condition event.
4 Let’s Foal Around Gelding has been a fairly consistent check earner against similar on half mile tracks like Freehold & Yonkers, draws better & arrives in a good form.
5 Moonlight Ransom One third in 12 starts this season, was a bit better finishing fourth from the rail last week, 1:50.2 winner here last season looms as a stalking threat, Dave Miller’s choice of three.
6 Twincreeks Jesse 0 for 15 in 2017, closed from a challenging spot to hit the board two starts back, couldn’t gain much when the pace was slower last week, tries a softer bottom level condition here.
7 Big City Jewel 0 for his last 30, ran into a 1:50.3 buzzsaw in a G Notes division last week, makes his third start off an injury scratch, looking for a stronger speed target to shoot at.
8 Magnum Mike Only three thirds in 14 starts this season, faded to seventh off cover last week, drops out of the G Notes Series, but draws a tougher post.
9 Jetski Louie Gelding was revved up for his third start off the bench & finished a bang up third with pace at both ends, exits the G Notes Series & looks to blast off again from an outside assignment.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 6-5-7-8
H Horse Comment
1 Memory Game Has had some recent success @ Saratoga with given aggressive drives, this is likely a serious test for class, but the rail facilitates a blast for early position.
2 Americanprimetime 1:49 winner here last season finished a good second against similar here back on 3-11, blowout winner @ Monticello two starts back returns in a cozy spot with some back class in his arsenal – Trainer: Fits class very well & should be strong.
3 Sir Jack Team Buter have torn up the place this season with dazzling numbers, recent claim struggling to make much headway against $25,000 claimers @ Yonkers, this may be a more suitable spot.
4 JDS Brent N Sheree Did some damage here this season, including a post ten blowout over an off track back on 3-18, freshened with a noteworthy qualifier @ Vernon Downs & now trying classier foes in this match up.
5 Odds On Equuleus 1:47.3 performer took a few starts to crank up his engine & was able to dominate easier last week, poised to handle the move back up the class ladder.
6 Too Darn Hot Flashed some sneaky late pace in :26.2 in a much needed acclimating mile last week, drops a notch for a barn that’s been lethal here this meet – Trainer: I was pleased with his last effort on the big track, trained very sharp this week.
7 Jacksrluckytoo Team Burke-tuned gelding hasn’t been a factor in three starts on the comeback trail here, yet should be tighter now, gets further class relief & may be able to overcome post eight.
8 Winwood Mac Dropped a notch, got shuffled & simply rode the rail when the real sprinting started, drops again for Team Harmon & we all know what kind of late kick he’s capable of on his best day.
9 Legion Of Boom Got his own way on the lead & was outsprinted third last week, gets another shot at this reduced level from a tougher outside assignment, yet has compiled a strong record this season.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 7-8-6-1
H Horse Comment
1 Quality Closer Gelding sharpened his sword in his last few @ Pocono, fresh off a perfect-trip win, returns to the mile track with the rail & brimming with confidence.
2 Artful Way Twice a Saratoga Open winner this season arrives in solid form for a strong percentage outfit, took advantage of a hot pace & equaled his lifetime mark of 1:51 two starts back & lands an ideal post that gives him options.
3 Baby Kitty Kitty stormed home off a hot pace & from far back to pull a huge upset two starts back in a career best 1:51.2 @ Dover Downs, not sure where he fits, but the inside post helps & the barn knows how to win here.
4 Deetzy Left from the rail for the pocket, caught briefly behind the tiring pacesetter & squeezed through for third in :26.3 last week, a commendable acclimating mile & draws well again in an intriguing match up – Trainer: Horse has been super, should be good in there.
5 Lawgiver Hanover 1:51.1 winner here last season has done some of his best work on smaller tracks this season, finished a dull sixth here two weeks ago & faces a slightly easier group.
6 Mariner Seelster Set it up from third over, forced wide around a tiring rival, closed well in :26.3, but couldn’t make up ground, second start over the track may see him within tighter striking range – Trainer: In very tough, draws bad, but seems good though.
7 Bullet Bob Left alertly for the pocket, got shuffled & angled in :26.3 chasing a red-hot Rodeo Romeo last week, getting re-acclimated to the mile track & this might be a spot where he can trip out.
8 Elrama N Regained his winning ways with a rousing rally & upset @ Harrah’s Philadelphia on 4-2, took advantage of a class drop & his sharpness & steamrolled to a new mark of 1:50 last week, recall his three-race winning streak in December – Trainer: Great mile last week against top foe, post draw not favorable, but this guy can be impressive when he’s right.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 3-9-4-6
H Horse Comment
1 Change Stride N Suddenly came up with a wake up effort, thundering home in :26.3 to just miss to Alex Bullville, sets it up again from a midpack post & ensured of plenty of action & speed to shoot at.
1A Barbara’s Shadow 0 for 11 in 2017, but put forth two solid efforts in this series, game uncovered runner up to a revved up standout P L Idaho last week, trending right, but post seven is a challenging in a competitive final.
2 Some Major Beach Finished a solid second to Iwillmakeyousaywow in the first leg, then closed well from a tough spot last week, moves inside, retains The Buckeye & looms as a price play.
3 Downthehighwy Went all the way in the first leg, then ran into the raging Iwillmakeyousaywow last week, draws inside that rival & remains a fresh threat with back class for Team Burke.
4 P L Idaho Tuned up with an improved third in the first leg, then aired it out in a softer round two division last week, looks for him to be forwardly placed off that confidence-building romp – Trainer: Feeling like the young whipper snapper he is, with another great steer he should be right there.
5 Victorydaze Wilwin 0 for 13 this season, landed on the fringe in both legs of this series, draws inside doesn’t quite rate among the sharper top contenders in this final.
6 Drunken Terror Recent Robert Ginsburg, Jr. claim just missed with a hard-charging second in round one & was right here third in the photo behind Alex Bullville last week, impossible to dismiss.
7 So Take That Reeled off five in a row before fading to third behind Iwillmakeyousaywow last week, was claimed again, draws a tougher post & may join the cavalry charge into the first turn, Jim Marohn, Jr.’s pick over #8.
8 Alex Bullville Popular item at the claim box overcame a case of seconditis with a well-rated win last week, expect to blast off to get involved & have any chance from post nine.
9 Iwillmakeyousaywow Todd Buter trainee has wowed them in both legs of this series, roared right back with a career best 1:50.3 last week, will need to be at least that good again from post ten – Trainer: Feeling good right now.
8 Eigth Race Entries
Picks: 3-7-1-2
H Horse Comment
1 More Dragon Classy Team Burke trainee closed well into a :54.1 back half in his 2017 debut, then tripped out off a fast pace @ Yonkers, fresh threat on the rail worth a long look in a great race.
2 Tip It On Back Productive Dover Downs invader shuffled there last out & still paced home in :26.4, ships in solid form, draw inside & adds spice to this competitive field.
3 Special T Rocks 9YO draws well on a long form spree, shook loose a bit too late & just missed to the big favorite Rodeo Romeo in ;26.3 last week, a major danger for a high percentage barn.
4 Polak A Only one for ten this season, yet has shown more life in his last two from inside posts there, can add speed to this party, but not sure if he can polish it off – Trainer: A top caliber condition horse, may or may not love the big track.
5 Macintosh N Yet another tough to evaluate Shaun Vallee shipper from Yonkers, arrives off three recent wins in the every-other pattern, sharp 8YO has a habit of working out pocket trips, rates highly in this tight match up.
6 B Fast Eddie 4YO gelding stepped up admirably with a game runner up finish to a raging Elrama N in :26.2, continues to gather momentum & has to endure another class hike.
7 Alberto Contador N Took a mark of 1:49.4 here this season at age nine, ultra game score here two starts back, returns off a brutal trip @ Pocono, reunited with Corey Callahan & looks like the one to beat.
8 The Real One Fresh from a strong 2016 season with eight wins, his second straight $200,000+ season & set an all-age track record @ Yonkers of 1:50, three tighteners on the comeback trail, tough draw here, but a serious threat – Trainer: Trained great this week.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 1-7-6-4

1 Major Key Team Burke-tuned 3YO has quickly found his best stride since coming back this season, winning two of three, overcame a hard-used mile to romp two weeks ago & moves inside.
2 White Bliss Rare white horse has struggled finishing sixth in both starts here, did miss 28 days prior to last week’s effort from post seven, looking elsewhere despite the better draw.
3 Double Again Sports a mark of 1;54.2 here at three, returns from back-to-back sick scratches & off a slow qualifier @ Pocono, got to monitor this one for any improvment.
4 Mike’s Z Tam Lightly-raced 3YO ran into a first time buzzsaw in Dorel in his 2017 debut & paced home in :26.3, gelding has some talent & potential, draws well to continue to improve – Trainer: Trained great this week.
5 Rocket Da Red Steady sort shells out Turnpike tolls after a productive campaign @ Dover Downs, draws a bit better here & matches up well for only his second start this month.
6 Who Do You Like Was claimed off a wake up win two starts back & uncorked a down-the-road career best in a sizzling 1:50.3 last week, stepping up in class & out to prove that was no fluke.
7 Wegottatruckyea Has hit the ticket in six of eight starts this season & his last two here, runner up to a surprisingly robust first time starter Dorel last week, tougher post, but heading in the right direction.
8 Quality Bud Lightly-raced filly flashed some talent at two, both qualifiers were strong, then broke while launching a late move as the heavy favorite last week, draws a tougher post for her rebound attempt – Trainer: I think last week she was just going too fast, she needs a little more experience.
9 Tractor Glen Hit the board in his last two starts here, beaten favorite tried to steal it on the front end & collared a surprisingly good Dorel last week, moves farther outside.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 6-7-8-1
H Horse Comment
1 Fox Valley Cupid Was an encouraging second in his debut here two starts back, then faded to sixth behind UF Fast Feelin last week, moves inside to carve out another ideal trip & rebound – Trainer: Won’t get used hard leaving from the rail, should have more in reserves late.
2 Perfect Terror 8YO gelding has just one third in nine starts this season, hasn’t been close in his last few, although his latest came after missing 28 days & did better at the post draw this time.
3 Tijuana Party Set a reasonable pace from post seven & faded to seventh in :31 two weeks ago, was competitive against these back in march & needs to turn things aroundo.
4 Stormin Rustler 13YO warrior with a remarkable 322 career starts was left in the wake of a 1:50.3 standout last week, fourth try since the sick scratch & draws the same inside post.
5 Legacy N Diamonds 12YO was able to romp by seven lengths in his 2017 debut @ Plainridge, so ships in fresh & full of confidence & this 48-time winner hikes up in price.
6 Camturo Beach Added Lasix in his last two & run into the raging Who Do You Like both times, only one for his last 30, but ramping up in positive direction & Tyler Buter sticks.
7 Workandplayhard Emerged from a shuffle to grab second behind UF Fast Feelin last week, 0 for 12 in 2017, but seems like he’s in a good groove right now & retains Dave Miller.
8 UF Fast Feelin Steady horse-for-the-course exploded home in :26.2 for the mild upset last week, draws a bit tougher, but remains a serious threat at this level – Trainer: Closed well last start, trip should determine things here.
9 Nigel Tufnel Was a much-improved runner up in his second start off two sick scratches @ Freehold, goes out for the same price, but post nine & his one for 14 record this season are concerns.
10 Semalu Express 3YO warhorse has been fairly consistent against $5,000 claimers @ Monticello, lands outside a pretty competitive G Notes Series division here.
11 Eleventh Race Entries
Picks: 3-10-5-1
H Horse Comment
1 Perseverant Gelding was struggling here recently, but returns off a big wake up mile @ Harrah’s Philadelphia, showed sudden speed & lost by a nose, returns here with the rail & on the drop down like several others.
2 Doubledownndirty Just one for his last 44 & winless in nine starts this season, toss out his latest from post eight @ Yonkers, hit the ticket in his previous three, including a close second here back on 3-11.
3 Sippin On Suds Just one for ten in 2017, hasn’t been a threat in both starts here this month, but this Burke trainee with a 1:50 mark @ The Meadows in 2017 gets a double drop in class & lands the same inside post.
4 Major War Hasn’t hit the board in six starts this season, makes his second attempt off a recent sick scratch, 1:49.2 winner here in 2016 capable of speed & draws well to display it.
5 Bruce’s Magic Gelding is trending skyward, fresh off a much better second in :26.3 chasing a runaway Odds On Equuleus, drops another notch & can set up his preferred stalking strategy from a midpack post & Dave Miller sticks.
6 One More Miracle Drops out of claimers after finishing a nonthreatening fourth in three of his last four & trying speed hasn’t worked out for him recently.
7 Mister Truth Suffered an interference break @ Yonkers last out, made an early miscue in the slop before that, just one for 13 this season, drops along with several others & post seven is no picnic.
8 Hurrikane Ali Returns from a few months off, qualified behind a far superior Check Six, hits rock bottom, draws a demanding post, owns some back class, but remains a question mark – Trainer: Qualified okay last Saturday, needs another start before he is tight enough for top effort, he was entered to race instead of chasing monsters in qualifiers.
9 Northern Assassin A Just two for his last 27, fringe player @ PA tracks in his last two, an even fourth here back on 3-11, returns at a greatly reduced level, but form is suspect & post is challenging – Trainer: Been racing well, was hoping for a better post, but will do our best.
10 Sentencing Memo Forced wide from a rough spot in :26.1 & landed on the fringe fourth again last week, drops again to the bottom rung, but this ten-time winner in 2016 is now only one for 12 this season & draws outside.
